The BSM Project

Blank Slate: Hope for a New America is the work of Ghanaian sculptural artist Kwame Akoto-Bamfo.  The monument represents the African American experience before, during, and after the American Civil War.  Its tour across the U.S. interrupts public art narratives in different places, including public spaces with Confederate symbolism.  The interactive placard provides a way for participants to share their opinions as part of the conversation that opens up as viewers reflect and respond on the monument’s presence and meaning.
